Columbus Technologies founding director Ricus Ellis is leaving the company to focus on his second business, called Draxin, a provider of research, development and manufacturing services to the mining industry.

According to Columbus Technologies, Ellis, a systems management software specialist, will leave the company at the end of September. “The company has been restructured and Ellis' responsibilities will be transferred to the two remaining directors Theo Fourie, sales director, and Mpume Dywili, who is the CEO,” it says.

Columbus Technologies started operations in March 2006 and is now an independent developer and marketer of systems management software. Ellis' resignation comes months after Columbus Technologies concluded a management buy-out of its two major investors, Mustek and Sizwe Africa IT Group.

Ellis says Columbus has demonstrated excellent growth during this time. “As a result, I am now keen to move on and focus my efforts on growing Draxin, which is involved in innovative safety, health, environment and quality projects in the mining and general industry using ICT, video and telemetry.

“It's a new path for me and I am looking forward to taking on the challenge of growing this business. I will not be too far from Columbus, as Draxin is a Gold Partner, and will continue to drive Columbus in our sector as an enabling technology,” he says.

According to Dywili, Ellis has been an integral part of the leadership team at Columbus and his drive and ability to innovate will be missed. “We wish him all the best with his future endeavours,” he adds.

Columbus has become well established in government in particular and is now exploring opportunities in the private sector.
