Roche Diagnostics, a division of pharmaceutical giant Roche, has successfully addressed the crucial financial reporting needs of its business with a business intelligence (BI) solution designed and implemented by Microsoft Gold Certified partner, IS Partners.
The Microsoft SQL-based BI solution has meant a complete turnaround for the organisation, with the finance team now spending the greater portion of its time on information analysis, rather than number-crunching.
"We are now able to get reports at the press of a button," says Kwame Sackitey, Manager for Finance and Operations for the Diagnostics division of Roche Products, SA. "The integrity of all data is also unquestionable."
He explains that, in the past, working around reports was a cumbersome process with one individual essentially responsible for extracting the required data and manipulating it into reports.
"We had a lot of transactional data, but no means of translating that into meaningful information. It took, on average, three days at the end of every month to complete financial reports that, at best, only resulted in different interpretations from different people."
Roche Diagnostics maintains a complex reporting matrix of products, markets, business units and customers for its laboratory-related businesses. Requirements in each instance are very different. Six different business units, each with its own unique reporting matrix, add another dimension of complexity to the intricacies of designing a solution that would meet the needs of each.
Despite the complex financial reporting structure, the solution was tailored to address the specific needs of each business unit without compromise. "Data is now online, accessible and easy to comprehend," says Sackitey.
"The BI solution has ensured easier, faster decisions at the appropriate levels. Most importantly," he adds, "everyone is talking about the same set of numbers."
