DStv Mobile is now available in a 3G streaming mobile TV service for MTN subscribers.

Released yesterday, the subscription service includes 11 channels for a fee of R40 per month or R15 per week.

DStv Mobile SA GM Mark Rayner says the new partnership will take the service to a wider audience on different platforms.

“Our broadcast mobile TV service has been available from MTN for close to a year and bringing mobile TV on a 3G platform is a natural progression of our partnership,” says Rayner.

Channels included in the streaming service are SuperSport, SuperSport Blitz, Channel O, TRACE Urban, Cartoon Network, Boomerang Mobile, Africa Magic, CNN, E! Entertainment Mobile and SawSee.

MTN SA GM Mapula Bodibe says the service is in response to customer demand.

“With our network capability, we are certain that their experience will be seamless. The affordability of the service will ensure that our customers always enjoy value-added services that are simple and convenient,” says Bodibe.

The service is available to all MTN subscribers with 3G compatible handsets that can connect to MTN Play.

iPhone app

In another announcement from DStv, its new TV Guide iPhone application is also now available.

The application has been built in partnership with digital consultancy, immedia, which was also involved in the development of the recently launched iPad TV Guide app.

Developer for immedia Jitesh Nunnan says the look and feel of the app has been designed to resonate with the smartphone interface.

A new feature for the iPhone app is the “Right Now” view, which lets users see what's happening on DStv in real-time.

Other services included in the app are the channel guide, channel filtering according to bouquet, favourite channels or genre, as well as daily highlights and entertainment news. Social elements for sharing via Facebook or e-mail are also available.
