Diverse E3 coming

There might be something for everyone at this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo - the gaming industry's annual convention showcasing the latest in hardware and games from publishers and developers who now want to reach consumers of all kinds, writes The Associated Press.

Nearly 250 exhibitors, including publishing giants Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo, plan to hype their latest games and gizmos. The Entertainment Software Association expects 45 000 attendees this week, which would be 4 000 more visitors than last year.

"I think there will be a couple of surprises and a couple of expected things," said Greg Zeschuk, co-founder at Electronic Arts' BioWare. "Obviously, the thing Sony and Microsoft are going for is to broaden their reach with consumers. It'll be interesting to get hands-on and see what kind of products they'll have that use the motion controls."

Sony intros 3D consoles

Sony has introduced the next step in gaming with the introduction of 3D technology to its consoles, says Sky News.

All new PlayStation 3 machines will now be 3D ready, while people who already own the gaming system can download a free upgrade. Sony CEO Andrew House said the new consoles would ensure gamers received "an ever more compelling, realistic and immersive experience".

He described the new system as "a very exciting proposition for the future of home entertainment".

Microsoft plans 3D gaming

Microsoft has confirmed it is next to board the 3D bandwagon, as the Xbox 360 will soon support 3D gaming, states Digital Trends.

In an interview with Develop, Blitz Game Studio's co-founder Andrew Oliver said Microsoft is planning to add 3D on the Xbox 360, eventually.

“Microsoft are going to be making an announcement about it at some point soon,” Oliver said. The vagueness of the date is likely going to be resolved at E3 next week.
