International ICT solutions and services group Datatec’s Logicalis subsidiary has acquired Mars Technologies, an IT services business, with offices in Cape Town, Johannesburg, Port Elizabeth, Durban and East London, employing 76 staff.
In a statement this morning, Datatec says Mars delivers managed IT services ranging from the remote monitoring of networks and servers, managed desktop, anti-virus, cloud backup, and printers, to full outsourcing, targeting small and mid-market enterprises.
Software solutions and application development complement the services offering, says Datatec.
The company points out that with the acquisition, the Logicalis South African operation strengthens and expands its managed services business in IP telephony, call centre, cloud, managed desktop, networks and IT solutions to its local and international customers over the combined portfolio.
“With the acquisition, the Logicalis South African operation strengthens and expands its managed services offering to better serve our corporate customers and deliver new services to existing customers from both companies,” says Jens Montanana, Datatec CEO.
Datatec operates in more than 50 countries across North America, Latin America, Europe, Africa, Middle East and Asia-Pacific. The group’s offerings span the technology distribution, integration and consulting sectors of the ICT market.
The JSE-listed South African company operates two main divisions: its integration and managed services through Logicalis, and its technology distribution business through Westcon International.
Montanana says Logicalis produced strong results despite emerging market currency headwinds, especially in its key Latin America region.
According to the group’s audited provisional results for the year ended 28 February, Logicalis’ revenue grew by 11.3% to $1.7 billion and earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization by 8.4% year-on-year, to $93.4 million.
Logicalis is the largest profit contributor to the group, despite only contributing 40% of the group’s revenue, and also has the widest geographical exposure. Datatec says it intends to continue to develop and grow Logicalis globally, through organic and acquisition activities.
