Datatec has continued to expand its portfolio and geographic presence. It has spent $12 million to buy assets from US-based Verecloud, which has developed a channel distribution platform for cloud and services solutions, to add to its Westcon unit.
This follows the announcement earlier this week that the dual-listed company's Logicalis Group has bought a 51% stake in Ituma, a speciality software developer based in Germany.
Established in 2006, Verecloud's cloud services platform aggregates best-in-class cloud solutions and services, and acts as a brokerage to provide businesses with complete access and control of all their cloud applications from one portal, says Datatec.
It notes this asset platform will be incorporated into Westcon's Cloud Solutions Practice and form the foundation for its cloud go-to-market solution which is designed to help resellers drive significant revenue from cloud-enabled services.
New offerings
"Verecloud enables Westcon to bring powerful channel-optimised cloud solutions and services distribution capabilities to the market," says Datatec CEO Jens Montanana. "Over the past 18 months, they have co-developed a truly differentiated cloud go-to-market capability.
"They are well positioned to leverage the potential that cloud has for technology vendors, and for resellers to broaden their service solutions."
The deal will be paid for through the issue of shares.
Meanwhile, Logicalis' stake in Ituma gives it exclusive access to its proprietary software-based WiFi platform, which enables businesses to deliver WiFi-enabled services such as 3D in-location navigation, product and service offerings access, product promotions and omni-channel retail ordering to their customers.
"WiFi-enabled services is an exciting segment of the growing global wireless data market. Our investment in Ituma provides Logicalis with access to a new complementary solution that has the potential to support increases in annuity, services and infrastructure revenues across multiple territories in which Logicalis operates," notes Montanana.
