Telecommunications company DataPro Group, listed on the JSE`s Alternative Exchange, is setting up to rebrand as VoxTelecom.
The company says the name change will "reflect the company`s intention to position itself as an alternative telecommunications provider".
It says the change is consistent with its transformation over the last 12 months from a traditional Internet service provider to a telecommunications service provider. It now offers a portfolio of voice and data services to consumers and corporate customers.
DataPro says the name change, which has been approved by the JSE, will go ahead on 28 June, if its shareholders support the idea.
The company says it provides telecommunications products and services to over 60 000 consumers through the @lantic brand, to more than 7 500 businesses through the corporate ISP business, DataPro, and to over 60% of the top 200 listed companies through the Orion Telecom brand.
DataPro interconnects with Telkom and Vodacom, and is expected to do the same with MTN and Cell C.
"The interconnects we`ll shortly have in place will allow us to play in the lucrative voice sector for the first time," said CEO Douglas Reed in a statement earlier this year. "The playing fields are still far from even, but at least we`re now allowed in the game, and deregulation is adding to the industry`s growth momentum."
The name VoxTelecom is held by one of DataPro`s subsidiaries.
