Enterprise solutions provider and SA distributor of DataMirror replication products, Dax Data, is enabling seamless business data integration for e-commerce, business intelligence and other distributed data applications by offering DataMirror Transformation Server for Linux at no charge.
Jeremy Matthews, MD of the local company, describes the product as a flexible, scalable transformation and replication solution that provides bi-directional, field-level replication support for like and heterogeneous platforms and databases. "Transformation Server for Linux on Oracle also offers advanced selection and filtering, transformational data enhancement and cleansing, as well as real-time replication," he says.
According to Matthews the decision to offer this version of the product freely on the Internet is concordant with growing support for the Linux platform as a mainstream server operating system (OS). "With at least seven million users worldwide, it is the fastest growing server OS and further growth is predicted. International Data Corporation (IDC) expects commercial Linux server shipments to grow at 25 percent per year through 2003.
"Customers today demand the flexibility to choose the technology most appropriate to their own specific needs, regardless of which platform it runs on," he adds.
To this end, Transformation Server allows data to be easily moved between mixed system environments, thereby enabling data warehousing, data and workload distribution, ERP application integration, high availability and e-business applications.
"For organisations with homogeneous environments, Transformation Server provides high performance, cost effective replication between like databases. It is also a strategic choice to accommodate mixed system environments that may occur in the future due to mergers and acquisitions," concludes Matthews.
