Cyberoam is expanding its footprint in emerging markets such as Africa as well as gearing itself up for the cloud environment.

India-based security solutions provider Cyberoam, a division of Elitecore Technologies, has expanded its business to cover 55 countries in less than three years, spearheaded by Cyberoam VP of new business development, Harish Chib.

Chib says Cyberoam aims to become one of the dominant security players in the global unified threat management (UTM) industry.

Looking to Africa

According to Chib, Cyberoam is making big financial investments in the African market. The security company has signed distribution and partnership deals in Kenya, Nigeria, and Tanzania.

“We are becoming very active in Africa, and SA was the initial base to get into the African continent. Internet service providers and managed service providers are a key market for us.”

Chib explains that the global recession has forced more companies, particularly in the mid-market, to get maximum value out of their technology. He says security is still a top priority for IT managers and this need will not fall away despite slashed IT budgets.

UTM on the rise

“The driving force is the replacement of enterprises' existing single thread security devices, using only firewalls, which is now moving towards multi-threat security appliances,” notes Chib.

“We see that more medium enterprises are accepting UTM as their primary security devices. Down the line in 2010, we will target the medium-sized enterprise, with a 500 up to 2 000-employee setup.”

Gartner and IDC analysts predict that by 2014, the firewall market will be completely replaced by the UTM market. Chib says this confirms the influence of UTM on the IT industry.

According to Chib, Cyberoam is also developing solutions that offer security in the cloud, as well as user authentication solutions. He says this is a key focus area for Cyberoam, as more companies place information in the cloud environment.
