Crysis 2 most pirated game

The most pirated PC game in 2011 was Crysis 2, as it was illegally downloaded an estimated 3.2 million times after its release in March, BBC reports.

This is according to a survey compiled by TorrentFreak. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, Battlefield 3, FIFA 12 and Portal 2 made up the rest of the top five most pirated PC games.

News.com.au says Torrent Freak collected data from BitTorrent over the last 12 months across Wii, Xbox 360 and PC. The PS3 was excluded from the list because it receives considerably less downloads.

Gears of War 3 was the most downloaded game on the Xbox 360, while Super Mario Galaxy 2 was most popular on the Wii.

However, TorrentFreak claims the number of downloads - at least those of top-tier titles - is slightly lower than last year, The Register states.

The Steam client, in particular, broke the five million concurrent user mark this week, a sign that an increasing number of people are turning to such platforms to receive content. Whether that directly affects piracy remains to be seen.
