Comverse, the supplier of software applications to the cellular market, has announced that Taiwanese mobile operator MoBiTai has selected Comverse`s Intelligent Short Message Service Centre (ISMSC) to supplement its existing SMS system and handle increased traffic.
MoBiTai recently selected Comverse to supply its Multimedia Messaging Service Centre (MMSC) and Mobile Data Gateway (MDG) to replace its existing gateway and provide MMS services. The Comverse ISMSC system includes support for prepaid SMS.
Texting is becoming a highly popular form of sending greetings and festive cheers in Taiwan. Taiwan currently is the number one mobile market in the world in terms of highest mobile penetration.
"In order to address the still rapidly growing usage of text messaging services, we decided for a capacity expansion with the Comverse ISMSC. It gives us the flexibility and efficiency of dealing with even enormous peaks in demand," says Dr Michael Mertsch, executive vice-president of MoBiTai.
The Comverse ISMSC delivers short messages in more than 190 mobile networks worldwide. It offers high-traffic support, cost-saving connectivity options, and the ability to optimise system resources and delivery mechanisms to match the different kinds of SMS traffic in the network, such as person-to-person messaging, notification, push, Comverse Who Called, and other applications.
ISMSC integrates into all major mobile networks, including GSM, GPRS, CDMA and TDMA. Moreover, its support for prepaid SMS allows mobile carriers to provide the same level of SMS service to both prepaid and contract subscribers.
