Computer Sciences chooses InterSystems` Ensemble as integration platform for Netherlands EHR project

Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC) has chosen the Ensemble universal integration platform from InterSystems for a major healthcare integration project in The Netherlands. The new initiative, called the National Switching Point, will be the foundation for countrywide roll-out of an electronic patient record (EHR) that is being developed under the direction of the National ICT Institute for Healthcare (NICTIZ).

The goal of the Ensemble-based National Switching Point project is to enable healthcare organisations throughout The Netherlands to rapidly exchange patient information while ensuring confidentiality. The National Switching Point project is the foundation of the country`s National Information Infrastructure, which has been dubbed Aorta. The first phase of the project is scheduled for completion in early 2006, when the integration infrastructure will be delivered to enable pilot testing by representatives of multiple healthcare segments.

CSC chose Ensemble for the national initiative based on its ability to enable rapid integration combined with the advanced, innovative functionality needed to integrate a wide variety of heterogeneous applications, systems and repositories. "We chose Ensemble because it`s the best fit for the demanding requirements of the National Switching Point project," says Darryl Berend, Director of Healthcare NL of CSC.

Development and management of the Ensemble-based system will be led by CSC under the supervision of NICTIZ. "Our experience with similar government projects in The Netherlands, United Kingdom and Denmark ensures we have the expertise needed to rapidly build the foundation of a reliable and cost-effective countrywide healthcare information network," Berend notes.

"Ensemble is being chosen as the integration platform for EHR projects in countries around the world," says Henry Adams, country manager for InterSystems South Africa. "InterSystems is playing an active role in these initiatives all over the world, including here in South Africa."
