The education department is phasing out Computer Science as a school subject name, and replacing it with the name Information Technology.

The change is being phased in as part of Grade 10 to 12 curriculum changes.

Computer Science is one of several school subjects to undergo name changes to reflect international trends and new content, says the department.

Others include Typing and Computyping - now to be called Computer Application Technology; Biology - now to be called Life Sciences; and Home Economics - which becomes Consumer Studies.
