Computer Associates International, Inc. (CA) has announced that Unicenter TNG, CA`s award-winning enterprise management software, played an integral role in West McLaren Mercedes driver Mika Hakkinen`s successful defense of the Formula One World Championship title.
The West McLaren Mercedes team leveraged the advanced enterprise management features of Unicenter TNG to maximize the performance and analytical power of the car driven by Hakkinen.
"This Formula One Drivers World Championship title wouldn`t have been possible without the superior technology that the West McLaren Mercedes team builds into its race cars," said Hakkinen. "In the highly competitive world of Formula One racing, we must leverage the most advanced technology available to gain a competitive advantage, and CA`s software is a big part of that."
As technology partners, CA and West McLaren Mercedes have developed an F1 telemetry analysis display for West McLaren Mercedes` race and testing engineers. This real-time solution relies on Unicenter TNG to monitor critical functions of the car and display both performance and operational data during test runs and races. Unicenter TNG then provides a three-dimensional image of the car with the data. This advanced computing environment gives the team a virtual picture of how the car is performing throughout the race.
"Throughout the season, we used CA`s software products to monitor and display important archival data on conditions that impact the car`s performance," said Ron Dennis, group managing director of TAG McLaren. "`The team`s technological advantage was an integral part of Mika`s second consecutive Formula One World Championship."
Deploying the advanced features of Unicenter TNG, the West McLaren Mercedes team is also able to monitor complex information from a vehicle moving at speeds in excess of 180 mph.
"Mika Hakkinen`s repeat championship performance in a car leveraging Unicenter TNG technology further illustrates the fact that CA solutions can be used in nontraditional IT applications," said Marc Sokol, senior vice president and general manager of global marketing at CA. "Unicenter TNG offers West McLaren Mercedes a competitive edge, which played a role in helping Mika accomplish this historic feat."
