Computer Associates continues services growth with acquisition of LDA systems

Computer Associates International continues its aggressive growth in the corporate IT services market with the acquisition of LDA Systems (LDA), a leading US-based information management consulting and services firm that provides enterprise-wide solutions integrating client/server, mainframe, midrange and Internet technologies.

LDA will become a unit of CA`s Global Professional Services, (GPS), augmenting GPS`s best-of-class resources in a wide range of consulting, technology and vertical market disciplines.

The announcement reinforces CA`s commitment to rapidly expand its services offerings in response to increased client demand for best-of-class turnkey solutions. "LDA is a tremendous match for us because of its strategic business consulting practices, its established areas of technical expertise and its strength in key vertical markets," said Chris Wagner, GPS executive vice president. "Acquiring LDA makes it clear to our clients that we are doing everything possible to support their information technology objectives."

LDA has specialty practices in Lotus Notes, business intelligence (data warehouse), Microsoft technologies and e-commerce solutions for midrange platforms. Existing lines of business include strategic consulting, project management, business technology evaluation, migration/conversion planning and system design/construction.

LDA has clients in manufacturing, transportation, banking, communications, government and other markets where CA already has a strong presence with its popular software products. LDA`s staff is therefore ideally positioned to support CA technology implementations in a variety of contexts.

"Becoming part of a global technology powerhouse like CA, with its outstanding R&D resources, universal market presence and a wealth of complementary professional services, is an incredible advantage for our clients and employees," said LDA President Steve Sweetnich. "With the increasing demand for IT services - and the increasing challenges associated with providing those services to a demanding corporate clientele - this union is clearly a win-win for everyone involved."

GPS, which continues to grow both internally and through acquisition, offers a broad spectrum of IT services in dozens of disciplines including infrastructure management, application development and integration, Y2K compliance services, asset management, deskside support, and end user productivity. Services range from strategic business development to consulting, implementation and comprehensive outsourcing.

All of LDA`s 300 employees are joining CA. In addition to its headquarters in Cleveland, Ohio, LDA will continue to maintain facilities in Columbus, Cincinnati and Atlanta. The 20-year-old company, with 1997 revenues of $25 million, has sustained annual growth rates of 35% over the last three years. Financial terms were not disclosed.
