Data management software specialist Commvault has introduced Metallic, its backup-as-a-service (BaaS) solution, to the South African market. In addition, Metallic is adding new data protection solutions, features, as well as enterprise workload support.

Metallic was established to bring next-generation software-as-a-service data protection to the market, delivering Commvault’s core technology through the cloud.

Gerhard Fourie, district channel manager for SA at Commvault, says the company has seen an aggressive push to cloud, automation, and an increased requirement for intelligence as companies transition to a new reality.

He says there is a growing need for a solution that’s easy to undertake, buy and manage without any large upfront investment. Metallic offers customers fast, secure backups with fast and granular recovery to protect them against data loss.

"Commvault's integration with Microsoft Azure comes at an ideal time as we experience a seismic shift in local enterprise IT,” he adds.

"Understanding that businesses around the world need dedicated protection for their SaaS applications, Metallic has made global availability a top priority, tripling its country availability and doubling its product offerings. This includes incorporating more Microsoft-specific capabilities,” says Fourie.

Johannes Kanis, Azure business group lead at Microsoft, says the deepening partnership between Azure and Commvault through Metallic is enabling Microsoft to deliver a powerful solution for storing and protecting business-critical data, not only in the cloud, but wherever it resides.

This partnership offers customer a good, yet cost-effective solution to handle the demands of modern data environments, says Kanis. “We plan to extend our collaboration even further to deliver tighter product integrations with native Azure services.”

New additions also include hybrid cloud solutions for SAP HANA and Kubernetes, Metallic Salesforce Backup, Metallic Office 365 & Teams Backup & Recovery, HyperScale X for Metallic, and support for Oracle Database and Microsoft Active Directory backup are now offered as part of the Metallic Database Backup.
