Communications and digital technologies minister Stella Ndabeni-Abrahams’s WhatsApp account has been hacked.
The department tweeted on Monday morning: “The WhatsApp account of minister of communications and digital technologies, Stella Ndabeni-Abrahams, has been hacked, resulting in private and confidential information being in the hands of a third-party.”
According to the department, the matter has since been reported to law enforcement authorities and platform owners for action.
“Obtaining and distributing information that is illegally obtained is a crime and offenders will be reported to legal authorities,” says the department.
Commenting on the hack, MP and Democratic Alliance shadow minister of communications and digital technologies Phumzile Van Damme says everyone, including the minister, deserves privacy.
She says: “This is appalling and violation of her privacy. Regardless of who it is and what they’ve done, no one deserves to have their right to privacy violated. There is a line that must not be crossed."
