Collaborations with top start-ups accelerates quantum computing

We are approaching the dawn of the commercial quantum era - a formative period when quantum computing and its early use cases rapidly develop.

So writes IBM Research director Jeff Welser in his blog IBM Collaborating With Top Start-ups to Accelerate Quantum Computing.

This transition has lead to a number of firsts being announced at the IBM Q Summit, Silicon Valley event in Palo Alto, CA. One being IBM's mission to cut through the hype and focus on the present state of quantum computing and how organisations, and developers can prepare for the future.

At the IBM Q Summit, attendees gathered to discuss what to expect over the next five years and what it means to be "quantum ready."

The discussion centered on the emerging role of the quantum developer and what that means for future application development.

"IBM announced the first start-ups to join the IBM Q Network, a worldwide community dedicated to advancing quantum computing and exploring practical applications for business and science. Membership in the network will enable these start-ups to run experiments and algorithms on IBM quantum computers via cloud-based access.

"Additionally, these start-up members will have the opportunity to collaborate with IBM researchers and technical SMEs on potential applications, as well as other IBM Q Network organisations."

Delegates attending #ThinkJohannesburg on 20 June will witness the power of quantum computing and hear how these start-ups have benefited from IBM's Q Network.
