Cisco Systems Zimbabwe ready for continental take-off

Johannesburg, 18 Jan 2000

Cisco Systems has opened an office in Zimbabwe to act as a hub to manage business in the rest of Africa. This follows an 85 percent increase in Cisco sales in Africa during the past year.

Cisco Systems offers various networking and Internet-based products to its customers who want to do business and communicate in a global marketplace, which thanks to the World Wide Web, is merely a click of a mouse away. "Businesses in Africa want to be connected to their customers and partners locally, as well as with the global world outside their borders," said Didier Lecluse, Cisco territory manager for Africa.

According to Lecluse, an in-country presence is what Cisco`s customers are demanding and this is what they will be getting. "By opening a branch in Zimbabwe, we can move closer to our customers. It`s all part of a bigger picture of African expansion for Cisco Systems. By using Zimbabwe as the hub, we can reach our network of African partners and customers, who are traditionally isolated due to geographical constraints."

Cisco`s local partner in Zimbabwe is Dimension Data and the two companies have a close working relationship, enabling the delivery of customised networking, communications and Internet solutions to customers. As part of its expansion plans, Cisco Systems Zimbabwe will be hiring two more employees.
