Control Instruments (CI) subsidiary, Electromatic, has finalised deals with BMW and Samcor to fit electronic components manufactured by Shurlock, a subsidiary of the company, to various vehicle makes.
Rod Forrester, MD of Electromatic, says BMW has increased volumes of components manufactured and supplied by Shurlock for its German manufacturing plants for the year 2000, which translates to an additional R10 million.
He adds that Shurlock has been awarded the contract to supply all security systems for Ford and Mazda vehicles at Samcor`s Pretoria plant. Samcor will also use some of Shurlock`s systems and accessories in its imported vehicles.
Shurlock has also landed a contract in the prepayment industry. Energy Measurements, a joint venture between Siemens and Spescom, has awarded Shurlock the contract to assemble circuit boards used in Energy Measurements` prepaid electricity meters. Forrester did not give an exact value but says it is a "multi-million rand deal".
Shurlock is the automotive division of Electromatic, a subsidiary of JSE-listed CI, and its design team focuses on engine control units and vehicle security systems.
