The National Prosecuting Authority has improved the productivity and effectiveness of staff in offices of the Director of Public Prosecutions of the Northern Cape with the implementation of 25 Xerox multifunctional devices and laser printers.
Three Xerox WorkCentre PE16s, two Xerox Phaser 3130 laser printers and 20 Xerox Phaser 3120 laser printers were installed in the Northern Cape offices.
"Many prosecutors in the Northern Cape were not previously equipped with any printers," says Sharon Erasmus, chief prosecutor at the National Prosecuting Authority in Kimberley. "Our public prosecutors had to make copies of documents and have their printing done at the general offices of the Department of Justice. They had to share the office services with one computer, one printer and a photocopier." Not an ideal situation, to say the least.
As a compact multifunctional device, the WorkCentre PE16 allows the National Prosecuting Authority to consolidate its multiple personal devices and reduce office space requirements. It has a small footprint to fit on the desktop, with powerful office features that include copying, printing, faxing and colour scanning in a single device.
The features of the WorkCentre PE16 allow a scan-once-print-many option that saves time and eliminates the wear and tear on the machine, says Ernest Leong, product manager of the Phaser range at Bytes Document Solutions, the sole authorised distributor of Xerox products in southern Africa. It has a durable design that is built to last with a monthly duty cycle of up to 10 000 pages. It will make up to 99 copies in a single job and fax at a rate of three seconds per page.
"The prosecutors of the Northern Cape can now enjoy fast, crisp, black and white laser output and multiple high-resolution copies," Leong says, referring to the Phaser 3120 and 3130 black-and-white laser printers.
"Each machine is small enough to be placed in every office so that they can perform to their maximum capabilities and provide staff with time savings and high-quality prints."
The Phaser printers are designed to meet the needs of professional users who are often faced with tight deadlines and have little time searching for appropriate facilities to perform their duties. The Phaser 3120 prints at speeds of 17 pages per minute (ppm) with the first page of a document being printed in 13 seconds. The Phaser 3130 prints at speeds of 16ppm and prints the first page of a document in less than 12 seconds.
"The Phaser printers allow prosecutors to produce documents quickly, spending less time out of the office in search of a machine to print on," Leong says. "The 25 machines the National Prosecuting Authority bought for its prosecutors offer improved functionality in these offices."
