The CITM course is intended to provide new and aspiring IT managers with an overview of the multiple domains and disciplines that form a part of the IT managers strategic and operational responsibilities. In addition, CITM provides new IT managers with the knowledge and tools to enable business efficiencies and reduce the risk inherent in operational environments, ultimately driving innovation and aligning IT with the business strategy.
The course provides the fundamental knowledge, hands-on skills and managerial aspects, touching on important aspects of the role. For this reason, the CITM course is also being adopted as a primer for individuals in programme management, sales and service delivery management roles.
The programme management and service management roles in particular have an expert level knowledge and experience in their respective areas (e.g. PMP/PMBOK/Prince2 or ITIL/ISO200, etc.) but then become heavily reliant on technical subject matter experts to perform operational tasks. Very often, having a discussion with these technical subject matter experts is a one-sided affair with your programme manager or service delivery manager unable to qualify the input received.
To perform effectively in these roles, one requires an understanding of the basics of each IT domain, the inter-relationship between each of these domains and managerial aspects that an IT manager is required to balance.
