Cell C has clarified that GloCell has not acquired the Cell C Autopage subscriber base as previously indicated by a press statement from GloCell's PR agent.
GloCell has merely been appointed as a service agent of Cell C to service the Cell C Autopage subscriber base.
Cell C said in a statement issued this afternoon that Seventy2 Telecommunications, incorporating GloCell Retail as a licensed brand, has been appointed as a new service agent for the company.
"GloCell will service the customers being transferred from Altech Autopage, following approval and transfer of these customers by Altech," the Cell C statement says.
GloCell is also expected to take over and rebrand many of Autopage's stores nationally from March 2016.
Meanwhile, the Competition Tribunal has approved the disposal of Altech Autopage's subscriber bases, with conditions.
The tribunal ruled the post-paid GSM subscriber bases could be sold to telecoms operators Cell C, MTN and Vodacom as planned ? but outlined a number of conditions pertaining to the employees affected by the disposal.
