Public service and administration minister Ayanda Dlodlo will host a two-day hackathon. The innovation programme will focus on developing technological solutions to improve the delivery of government services.

Organised by the Centre for Public Service Innovation (CSPI), in partnership with youth ICT organisation Geekulcha, the hackathon will take place in Boksburg on 24 and 25 February.

It will be hosted on the side-lines of the 19th Public Sector Innovation Awards held by the CPSI. Participants will have the option to participate virtually, to include participants outside the Gauteng province.

Government is continually looking for innovators and technology that will help accelerate public service delivery, says Dlodlo.

The hackathon calls on developers, scientists, public servants/administrators and designers to take part in the 36-hour hackathon event. A Design Thinking workshop will be hosted as part of the awards build-up and the hackathon participants are invited to participate.

“Participants of the hackathon are required to have an existing solution that can be further developed at the hackathon with support of the mentors,” according to the Department of Public Service and Administration.

“A panel of judges from the public sector, industry and business will judge the hackathon solutions and determine the prize-winners.”

The hackathon’s winning teams will be announced at the Public Sector Innovation Hackathon Awards later in the evening of 25 February.
