Communications minister Stella Ndabeni-Abrahams has invited South Africans to nominate potential candidates to serve on theboard of directors of Broadband Infraco (BBI).
State-owned wholesale infrastructure provider BBI is an entity of the Department of Communications and Digital Technologies (DCDT), which is overseen by Ndabeni-Abrahams.
The appointed persons will serve as members of the board on a part-time basis for a period not exceeding three years, subject to annual performance assessments and the merger of BBI and Sentech.
On remuneration, the statement says this will be per the guidelines approved by the minister.
Furthermore, an applicant must be a fit and proper person, be of good character, and not be disqualified in terms of Section 69 of the Companies Act, it states.
The minister is looking for applicants with expertise in electrical engineering and ICT, media, telecommunications and broadcasting, finance and related fields, preferably a chartered accountant who has served in audit committees in the public sector, legal and governance; marketing; sales and stakeholder management; ICT policy and regulations, corporate governance; IT governance and ethics; and digital transformation.
In terms of qualifications, the nominated applicant must possess an undergraduate qualification – bachelor’s degree or advanced / higher / post-graduate diploma – and experience in corporate or public sector governance.
Candidates with foreign academic qualifications that have not been verified with the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) must do so directly with SAQA.
All candidates must submit certified copies of their academic qualifications, including matric and ID document.
The statement indicates the application must contain the relevant CV of the nominated candidate. It must include the following: ID number, gender, race, current designation and responsibilities, contact details (postal and e-mail addresses, and telephone), qualifications, current and past service on boards, areas of expertise and acquired skills, and the names and contact details of two referees. Confirmation of the availability of the nominee is also required.
Nominees will be required to disclose financial interests in line with clause 13 of the MOI and Companies Act. Successful candidates must submit themselves to verification of qualifications and security vetting.
