Johannesburg, 05 Feb 2002

Computer Associates (CA) has announced 23 new solutions that enable customers to manage, secure, preserve and integrate Linux distributed and mainframe implementations across their heterogeneous enterprises.

According to Dan van der Westhuizen, regional manager, Computer Associates (Africa and Middle East), CA has had a long-standing commitment to the success of the Linux platform in the enterprise and now offers 54 solutions for managing systems on Linux: 42 are generally available and 12 are in beta release and scheduled for general availability within three to six months.

"CA says it has worked closely with the Linux community to ensure the full compatibility of its solutions with all major distributions, including Caldera, Red Hat, SuSE and TurboLinux," he adds.

CA supports Linux across each of its major focus areas:

  • In addition to porting popular e-business management solutions to Linux, CA has also announced the availability of Unicenter Universal Job Management Agent, a new product that enables cross-platform job scheduling across heterogeneous platforms, including Linux.

CA is making available open source code that extends Linux-PAM (Pluggable Authentication Modules) to enable user authentication through CA`s mainframe security solutions, eTrust CA-ACF2 Security for z/OS and OS/390 and CA-Top Secret Security for z/OS and OS/390.

Mainframe security administrators are said to benefit from this solution because it provides fully scalable account maintenance for all distributed and mainframe Linux applications across the enterprise without additional effort or cost.
