CA Southern Africa has successfully transitioned mainframe infrastructure run by Business Connexion for its client, TransUnion Credit Bureau, onto enterprise performance and mainframe management products from CA Technologies.
This complex project aimed to reduce the overall costs of managing the TransUnion IT environment through standardising all performance management, workload automation, event management and output management on CA products.
CA Southern Africa and Business Connexion worked on the business case and transition roadmap for the past two years. The CA Technologies products chosen by Business Connexion include CA-View, CA-Deliver and CA-Workload Automation, and replace a competitor's solution.
“CA Southern Africa and Business Connexion made a convincing business case for standardising on CA to reduce costs and improve service levels,” says Johan van Huyssteen, general manager, cloud infrastructure services, Business Connexion. “We are starting to see those benefits coming through already.
“We are always raising the bar when it comes to delivering service to our customers, so we were very interested in the compelling benefits that standardising mainframe management would deliver for our client, TransUnion,” says Van Huyssteen. “We also saw the potential for rolling this enterprise management platform out to other clients of our data centres.”
CA Southern Africa made use of automated conversion tools developed by CA Technologies internationally. A highly skilled and experienced CA Technologies consultant was deployed to the project, spending a limited amount of time onsite at the beginning and end of the project. The bulk of the project was run remotely, with support from local resources at CA Southern Africa and Business Connexion.
The implementation team took a phased approach to the project, focusing on a series of quick wins to build user acceptance of the new solution ahead of the official go-live date. The project was delivered on time and slightly under budget.
“This project demonstrates once again how CA Technologies' clients can tap into a global resource pool that is brimming with talent and experience to provide just the solution they need,” says Gary Lawrence, managing director, CA Southern Africa.
