Brainware announces new board

Johannesburg, 18 Oct 1999

IT services company Brainware has restructured its board of directors as part of its drive to turn the company around.

The company began an extensive restructuring process in the year to June 1999 after what it says was "a great deal of critical self-examination".

The restructuring has seen several disposals and divestment of some local and international interests, which saw the group shed 34 of its 49 operating companies.

It also reduced to four the number of divisions: health, technology, consulting and application solutions, which CEO JC van Niekerk says brought about "a leaner, flatter, more manageable structure with real synergistic opportunities".

He says there is still a great deal of work to be done on the restructuring of the group, "but we now have the talents, experience and vision to restore confidence, deliver sustainable, credible growth in shareholders` value, instil trust and fundamentally, turn Brainware around".

New executive directors include Brainware Health MD Koot du Plessis, LHA Management Consultants MD Louis Heyl, Brainware Consulting MD Marius Pels and financial director Retief Ueckermann.

Staying on are Harry van den Berg and Amcotec MD Keith MacMillan.

Non-executive directors are founder and former chairman Piet den Boer, Business Bank CEO Dr Willie Boshoff, and Jacques van Ent.

Howard Cooper, Philip Piek, Bushy Bester, Lyn Bester, Jane Thomson and Johan Basson are leaving the board.

Van Niekerk says a new non-executive chairman of "considerable stature" will be named in January.
