Boeing demonstrates integrated services

The Boeing Company has further demonstrated that its Transformational Satellite Communications System (TSAT) can provide warfighters with rapid access to integrated voice, data and video services.

Recent tests of the TSAT Next Generation Processor Router, measuring data transmission and lag time from a user perspective, showed a high level of service-quality and demonstrated the dynamic bandwidth resource allocation that TSAT will bring to military satellite communications users.

"We know what it takes to provide our warfighters with the high-speed Internet protocol-based capabilities they need to meet their future communication requirements," said Howard Chambers, VP and GM of Boeing Space and Intelligence Systems. "These tests helped to demonstrate that TSAT will give them what they need."

Lockheed Martin recently delivered the US Navy's first fully-integrated, shore-based trainer for sailors who will crew the Navy's future fleet of Littoral Combat Ships (LCS) at the San Diego Naval Base.

The Future Surface Combatant-Scalable Shore Based Trainer (FSC-SSBT) was designed specifically to support the special needs of the LCS, a new class of shallow-water surface combatant designed to be forward-deployed the majority of its life cycle.

The FSC-SSBT will allow the crew of Freedom (LCS 1) and any additional Lockheed Martin-designed LCSs to undertake high-fidelity, realistic shipboard bridge, combat system and engineering duties - in an integrated training environment - long before they actually board the ship.

The Norwegian frigate Roald Amundsen (F-311), equipped with a Lockheed Martin-developed SPY-1F Aegis Weapon System, was commissioned recently in a ceremony held at Navantia shipyard in Ferrol, Spain.

The Roald Amundsen's commissioning is the latest milestone for the five-ship Norwegian New Frigate programme. The Fridtjof Nansen, which was commissioned in April 2006, completed its first Evolved Sea Sparrow Missile (ESSM) live firing in late 2006.

The 5 200-ton Roald Amundsen, with a crew of 120, was designed around Lockheed Martin's SPY-1F radar.

EADS has decided to implement a group-wide Information Management Shared Service and Delivery organisation. The objectives of the new service are to integrate development, operation and support of all EADS IT infrastructure and shared applications.

The new approach will create significant cost-savings of more than 20% per year through improved efficiency, sourcing and demand management. The decision is part of an EADS strategy to further streamline and integrate EADS group structure.

A similar approach has already been successfully implemented within the EADS joint single HR platform and the EADS payroll services. The new service is mandatory to meet current and future business needs for efficiency, improved IT performance and integration support. It will also contribute to the Airbus Power programme.
