BMC forum event a great success - provides ideal platform for industry engagement

Information technology (IT) is becoming more heterogeneous and as a result more tedious. This is according to Peter Armstrong, Corporate Strategist, BMC Software Inc, who addressed delegates attending BMC Software`s annual Forum conference, held recently at Vodaworld in Midrand, Gauteng.

Armstrong believes IT should provide business with intelligent solutions that really adhere to its needs.

"It should make business sense. When you are driving a car, what you really want to see on the dashboard is not the petrol gauge but a device that tells you whether you will make it to work or not."

Talking on business service management trends, he said the number of ITIL certifications is going through roof, particularly since the US has started to adopt this de facto standard for IT project implementations.

"ITIL tells you what to do, while CoBIT offers an all-important checklist. The one should go hand in hand with the other - it is pointless to implement ITIL`s guidelines but not to check whether you are actually doing it right," he comments.

BMC`s Forum saw over 350 delegates, comprised of BMC partners and customers, attending the various keynote addresses and breakaway sessions that included international speakers such as Armstrong; BMC MSM Sales Leader for Middle East & Africa Matthew Twist; Arjen Wiersma, Country Manager for BMC Software sub-Saharan Africa; and BMI-TechKnowledge IT Services Research Manager, Roy Blume.

The breakaway sessions focused on industry talk points such as: server management as a service launch; methodologies for project implementations; and getting value from your CMDB.

BMC Forum provided the company`s reseller partners AL Indigo, GijimAst, TuringSMI, Remedy Integrated Solutions (RIS), Blue Turtle and Computek as well as French-based company, Sentry Software Solutions, with the opportunity to showcase their productions and skills-set based on BMC`s solutions offering.

Additionally, ITIL specialist consulting firm Pink Elephant was on hand to provide important information on the recently introduced ITIL Version 3. IBM also joined as a sponsor demonstrating the IBM System P and X product range.

"Our Forum event was undoubtedly a great success with various partners and customers attending sessions on some of the most pertinent BSM topics today. Furthermore, we found that delegates enjoyed the opportunity to engage with one another; I have no doubt a number of partnerships have been formed," says Arjen Wiersma, country manager for BMC Software sub-Saharan Africa.

"We would also like to thank our valued partners for their ongoing support and commitment which was once again so clearly illustrated at this event."

BMC Forum concluded with a cocktail party which also included the announcement of the Remedy User Group`s (also known as AmaRUGARUGA) new chairperson, Dawn Naidoo, UTi. Naidoo takes over from Peter Boden, formerly from BCX who recently joined BMC Software SA.
