This conference will deal with changes in the ICT sector with regards to broad-based black economic empowerment (BBBEE), in line with the ICT Charter. The conference will explore opportunities in the ICT sector for BBBEE companies.
Deputy President Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka is scheduled to deliver the keynote address, via a video link.
Other speakers lined up for the morning session include the minister of communication, Dr Ivy Matsepe-Casaburri, and SITA's chief of business operations, Noedine Isaacs-Mpulo.
The afternoon session will feature Brandon Redcliffe, the Gauteng executive of BITF and Oupa Mopaki, CEO of ISET SITA. Topics include BBBEE codes and verification agencies, and the role of the CIO in empowering black people. The event will also see the launch of a new government project for small businesses, dubbed Tswelopele.
The BITF recently issued a statement saying "the issues that the BITF has been embroiled in since the end of 2005 are now behind us".
The organisation announced a new national leadership team, with Mthunzi Mdwaba as chairman.
Its representation in the Government IT Officers (GITO) Council shows "the support the BITF has in engaging government in critical areas that impact our black professionals in the industry".
The BITF conference is a day-long event, followed by a gala dinner, with tickets costing R500 for members and R1 200 for non-members.
