Bertling, a global project logistics and ship owning corporation, has implemented SystemSkan on its local network in South Africa. The company appointed SystemSkan distributor J2 Software to provide a solution to control applications on its network and more importantly, to prevent data theft.
SystemSkan is used to identify security risks within an organisation, and provides policy enforcement tools to minimise these risks. It also assists in setting the appropriate policy and provides enforcement tools to protect company information.
Today's challenging economy has put immense strain on companies. To ensure their survival, it is critical that their costs are closely monitored and strictly controlled. These include physical costs like telephone bills, salaries and rental agreements, but also extend to non-tangible elements like protecting one's confidential and valuable information, bandwidth control and productivity.
Bertling's IT manager - Africa, Casper van Zijl, says SystemSkan can detect program usage, file access and activity, and generate records of all network activity, including Internet use. “The solution provides reports in a simple, easy-to-use format. Unlike basic monitoring products, which are purely reactive, SystemSkan provides both reactive and proactive security features.
“This proactive functionality prevents policy breaches before they occur by continually and automatically screening all activity, and can be configured to prevent inappropriate activities or lock users' PCs when the company's policy has been broken,” he adds.
SystemSkan is a total user management tool, which provides business managers and IT administrators with the ability to view and record every user's actions on the computer network, including Internet and outgoing e-mail attachments. With SystemSkan, every user event is audited and can be controlled.
“With users being able to access the Internet, send and receive e-mail and browse the local network, often in an unstructured manner, it is more important than ever that employees are monitored and kept productive. It is essential that access to information is managed and users are accountable for their actions,” he explains.
J2 Software managing director John Mc Loughlin is very excited to add Bertling to his customer list. “They are a highly respected leader in the logistics field and J2 Software is proud to be chosen to provide increased internal security and to be their policy enforcement solution provider.”
Mc Loughlin says many IT administrators and business managers do not have the tools to know what users are doing on the organisation's computers and on the network. “Very little consideration has been given to providing solid management systems to ensure that the investment in technology delivers maximum benefit. In essence, in these tough times, it is extremely important that executives take corrective steps and ensure there are preventative measures in place for this.”
SystemSkan will greatly increase the efficiency of network management and reduce the cost of administration services within the workplace. In addition, the product includes network utilities such as remote control administration, messaging and task scheduling. SystemSkan is a simple tool to enforce your IT policy, increase productivity and cut bandwidth costs.
“In conclusion, SystemSkan allows us to stop data theft, it prevents viruses from coming in through USB and other removable devices and, more importantly, we can monitor our users and ensure they are productive. The installation was quick and easy and J2 Software continues to deliver on its commitment,” says Van Zijl.
