Willem van Rensburg, group executive in charge of strategy and telecommunications at JSE-listed Business Connexion (BCX), has resigned.
Van Rensburg will pursue "personal business interests" and will leave BCX at the end of this month, after spending 16 years at the firm. He says he will take a month-long sabbatical before announcing his future plans.
In August 2005, Van Rensburg spearheaded BCX's R35 million acquisition of Bidvest Network Solutions, subsequently renamed Business Connexion Communications.
Van Rensburg's announcement comes in the middle of the Competition Tribunal's hearings into whether Telkom's proposed R2.4 billion takeover of the IT services firm should be allowed to proceed.
Dimension Data, the Competition Commission and the Internet Service Providers' Association oppose the deal on the grounds that it will harm competition in the sector.
