Infor, a leading provider of beautiful business applications specialised by industry and built for the cloud, today announced that Barloworld Logistics' warehouse in Johannesburg has successfully upgraded to the latest release of the Infor Supply Chain Execution (SCE) Warehouse Management System. The project was successfully deployed by Infor's global supply chain partner, SNS, a leading provider of supply chain consulting and software solutions in the Middle East, Africa and Europe.
Established in 2001, Barloworld Logistics has grown into a significant supply chain solutions business in Southern Africa with complementary operations in the Middle East. Barloworld Logistics had implemented Infor's WMS in its 20 000 square meters' warehouse for the operation in 2008. As the operation grew and the need for further functionality arose, Barloworld Logistics started reviewing various options. After a thorough and detailed evaluation, it was decided to upgrade to the latest version of Infor SCE.
The upgrade project was completed in five months and included a redesign of operations, a revamping of interfaces with its ERP solution and the Automated Storage and Retrieval Systems (AS/RS) conveyor belt system, along with training and various testing phases. One of the objectives was to have a vanilla implementation with no customisations, with a target to hit a firm go-live date. Among the new features of the WMS, Barloworld Logistics is benefiting from built-in packing functions, operational dashboards and various user profiles for both Web and handheld applications.
The Infor SCE system manages over 25 000 SKUs and helps receive just under 10 000 order lines and shipping around 27 000 order lines every month. Single scan receiving allows for minimum inbound time and assignment picking allows for the distribution of tasks equally and without paper to the various pickers.
