The 2004 African ICT Achievers Award-winner for top educator, Victor Phiri, has nominated Toronto Primary School in Limpopo Province as the recipient of 10 computers donated as part of his award.

Phiri, an IT teacher, says: "The donation of computers will open opportunities for both educators and learners to enhance the culture of ICT learning and teaching."

Toronto Primary School, with over 900 pupils, was first introduced to computers in 1998. ForgeAhead, owner of the African ICT Achievers Awards, together with Xylocom and Axiz distributors, facilitated the handover.

"We started this programme to ensure our youth are encouraged to explore the vast array of opportunities that exist in the ICT sector," says Jane Mosebi, MD of ForgeAhead.

"To become active participants within the ICT sector, youth, especially from underprivileged areas, should be exposed to technology earlier in life, instead of being confronted with technology at tertiary institutions for the first time," says Mosebi.
