Asus has released the ARES II, which it claims to be the most powerful graphics card currently available.
The electronics company says the ARES II is part of the Republic of Gamers' (ROG) series of products and is effectively two Radeon video cards on a single board. The card houses dual HD 7970 GHz Edition GPUs, which Asus says enable the card to support smooth PC gaming.
According to Asus, the ARES II's 6GB GDDR5 video memory allows for smooth high-count framerates in any PC game currently available or expected in the near future and can handle even the most detailed gaming without experiencing any slowdown. The card supports resolutions higher than 1080p, such as WQHD or 2560 x 1440 and 2560 x 1600.
Asus says the ARES ll also boasts of heat dissipation via a hybrid thermal design that includes liquid and air cooling. This design consists of a 120mm fan block that fits in PC cases, with a tube running to the graphics card to provide dedicated heat removal from the dual GPUs. The card itself is fitted with an 80mm dust-proof fan for cooling of critical components such as video memory and power delivery elements, it adds. This also prevents dust and debris accumulation.
The card has a slim two-slot height, Asus notes, keeping an extra expansion slot free on the motherboard. It employs exclusive Asus DIGI+ VRM and Super Alloy Power technologies for product longevity. This technology also provides more precise power delivery to bolster graphics card stability and increases overclocking flexibility.
The bundled ROG Edition GPU Tweak utility allows users to modify card parameters including core and memory speeds, fan performance, and voltages. In addition to this, GPU Tweak doubles as a monitoring program for keeping an eye on the temperature and power consumption levels of the device.
The card ships in a custom ROG-themed case and each card features a laser-etched serial number on the aluminum backplate to denote its collectible status.
The ARES II debuts as a limited edition product, with only 1 000 units produced. Pricing will be announced closer to product release and may vary by market.
