Aspiration implements Skills Acquisition Software and Process in for SAB Miller Africa & Asia

Johannesburg, 01 Jul 2006

The process is supported by the Aspiration E-Skills software module.

The pilot intervention was for Tanzania (Tanzania Breweries Limited) which has enjoyed success of winning Brewery of the year awards over the past 4 years in their Arusha, Dar es Salaam and Mwanza operations. All these plants had the benefit of the Aspiration skills acquisition process. It has been subsequently rolled into SAB Miller operations in Botswana, Mozambique, Zambia, Swaziland and Lesotho.

The process is particularly relevant to the challenges facing these countries because the key factor hampering progress is the lack of skills. This process helps the organisation to fast track skills development especially for locally appointed managers with limited experience

The methodology used is the establishment of competence profiles for every job in the business. These profile break the job down into the key elements for which a series of learning objectives are written. These learning objectives inform the learner what they are expected to know and do but also provide a vehicle for managers to conduct assessment and track the progress of assessed skills.

The aspiration E-Skills software hold the competence profiles and allow for them to be linked to each employee. The progress is aggregated across the whole organisation providing a snapshot of assessed skills with drill down reports through each region, department, sub department and section. The key factor is the utilisation of learning objective sign off as a short interval measurement system to drive the process.

The Aspiration approach provides a unique technology backed solution that has delivered results for these countries.
