You’ll be hard pressed to find someone these days who hasn’t heard of the Internet of things (IOT). It’s a term thrown around by tech heads across industries, and although it is a relatively new concept in South Africa, it is slowly but surely creeping into our daily lives through the devices and appliances we use in our homes, to technology integration changes within the work space. The concept has quite literally taken the world by storm, and South Africa is set to jump on this connected bandwagon in a huge way.

One company that has been ahead of the connection curve within the IOT space is IoTdc, a focused distributor of Connected Devices. Having launched in early 2019, the growth it has shown thus far has been incredible, and it is now supplying more than 10 000 products and has sold over 40 000 devices from global suppliers.

With a fundamental belief that IOT is the way of the future, the progressively innovative vision of IoTdc is to simplify the process of finding the ‘thing’ in IOT through a cutting-edge solution-set that will essentially make connected devices accessible to anyone and everyone. “IOT is about so much more than just smart homes,” says Ewald Fourie, co-founder of IoTdc. “The correct devices, soundly coupled with the correct implementation of IOT, will lead to a shift in connectivity. By bundling our IP and devices, our customers are able to not only provide effective and money-saving solutions, they will also be offered countless ways to improve productivity through intelligent process optimisation, and in turn, improve their bottom line.”

With the exciting announcement that IoTdc will now be partnering with Bosch, conquering South Africa, Africa’s most industrialised country, is set to be the next win on its to-do list. Bosch is a market leader in manufacturing sensors for automotive and consumer devices.

Specifically, Bosch Connected Devices and Solutions (BCDS) is a division focusing on IOT and is producing sensor devices for connected mobility, industry and logistics. The accelerating scope, scale and economic impact of technology is a major transformative force, not only globally, but also locally, as Africa slowly but surely comes online. This partnership will be the first step in accelerating technological change and will serve as a stepping stone in enabling the rest of the continent.

So, while it is certainly evident that IOT is set to change the technological landscape as we all know it, IoTdc has entrenched itself as a key player, integrally linked to this change. The future is bright, not just for our integrated connectivity, but for what IoTdc, together with Bosch, is ramping up to achieve.
