Apple posts record revenue

Apple yesterday once again surpassed estimates, posting record revenue for its most recent fiscal quarter and beating expectations in sales of its products across the board, reports Cnet. The company also revealed it will unveil the next version of Mac OS X today.

It reported a profit of $7.31 billion, or $7.79 per share, for the quarter ending 19 June. That's more than double what the company reported at the same time last year.

Revenue for the quarter was $28.57 billion, up nearly 82% from the same quarter a year ago, and another record for the tech giant.

Green light for Google+ iPhone app

Google has gained Apple's approval to offer its Google+ social networking service on the iPhone, according to V3.co.uk.

Designed for the iPhone 3G, 3GS and iPhone 4 models, the Google+ iPhone App will allow users to access the Google service and share information from their handsets.

Though the client software supports the iOS 4 platform, support for the larger display of the iPad tablet is not listed.

Google to defend HTC in Apple tiff

Google's executive chairman is sticking his mouth into the middle of the Apple versus HTC battle, writes the Associated Press.

Eric Schmidt defended HTC against a company where he used to sit on the board of directors. At Google's Mobile Conference, in Tokyo yesterday, Schmidt pledged Google's support for HTC in its patent battle against Apple.

HTC is appealing a US International Trade Commission ruling that the company trespassed on two Apple patents with its Google Android-based smartphones. Apple had charged that HTC violated 10 patents.

LulzSec extracts Murdoch's e-mail archive?

The hacktivists behind a hack on The Sun's Web site claim to have extracted an e-mail archive which they plan to release, reveals The Register.

News International's systems were hacked on Monday night. As a result, visitors to The Sun's Web site were redirected towards a fake story on the supposed death of Rupert Murdoch by infamous hacktivist collective LulzSec.

Sabu, a prominent member of LulzSec, said via Twitter that the group was sitting on e-mails of News International staffers that it planned to release. In the meantime, Sabu released e-mail login details for former News International chief executive Rebekah Brooks, a central figure in the News of the Worldvoicemail-hacking scandal.
