Apple denies tracking users
Apple has denied its iPhones and 3G iPads have been secretly recording their owners' movements, says the BBC.
In a Web site posting, the company said it had never tracked user location and had no plans to do so in future.
Security researchers claimed to have found a hidden file on the devices containing a record of everywhere they had been. Some users managed to extract the data and plot it on maps.
Union to resist Nokia job cuts
The Unite union has vowed to resist plans by mobile phone giant Nokia to axe 700 jobs in the UK, with assistant general secretary Tony Burke describing the news as “another dark day for the British economy”, reveals Computing.co.uk.
The union said it would take part in a concerted campaign to halt the job losses that will hit Nokia sites across the UK.
Nokia yesterday said it will reduce its global workforce by 4 000 employees by the end of 2012, with its operations in the UK, Denmark and Finland suffering most of the cuts. It will also transfer another 3 000 workers to services firm Accenture.
PayPal boosts eBay's profits
Fuelled by its PayPal division, eBay reported first quarter results that exceeded expectations, according to Cnet.
Revenue jumped 16%, to $2.5 billion, compared to the same period a year ago, and profit soared by 20% to total $475.9 million, or 36c a share.
The results were in line with its internal projections of revenue of up to $2.5 billion and earnings per share up to 36c a share. The company also met or exceeded analysts' expectations for the period.
Android gets Google Docs app
Google has released a new Google Docs application for its Android mobile operating system, hoping to facilitate both the editing and sharing of documents via its online word processing service, reports The Register.
Now available from the Android Market, the app allows users to search for and open files stored across Google accounts, and offers built-in tools for sharing files with others users.
Users can also upload files stored on their phones, and can add widgets to the phone's home screen that handle common tasks.
