AppFog secures $8m funding

Cloud-based platform-as-a-service (PaaS) vendor AppFog has secured $8 million of venture funding, reports IT World.

Ignition managing director Frank Artale, who will join AppFog's board of directors, says the company's focus on open source “provides them with a unique position to provide a solid product and help drive a movement that will significantly benefit enterprise IT.”

According to Venture Beat, AppFog previously raised $1.8 million. The $8 million in new funding is being led by Ignition Partners.

“We're going to use this funding to take the template we offer developers to another level and offer the framework to those that use Java, Node, Ruby, and others,” says AppFog CEO Lucas Carlson.

Sys-Con says industry analysts have told the start-up and its backers that PaaS is heading for “big growth”, especially in the enterprise market.

AppFog claims nearly 20 000 application developers have created and deployed about 10 000 applications using its platform.
