AMD`s new COO
Chip maker Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) has promoted Dirk Meyer to the position of president and COO, ICT World reports.
Previously, Meyer served as president and COO of the company`s microprocessor business.
With Meyer`s promotion, AMD`s chairman and CEO, Hector Ruiz, gives up the title of president. He and Meyer will share the 'leadership and management` of the company, says AMD.
Nortel hires another Motorola exec
Network World reports that the telecommunications equipment company hired Dennis Carey as executive VP of corporate operations. Carey had most recently served as executive VP and CEO of Motorola`s Integrated Electronic Systems Group.
Last year, Motorola sued its former COO, Mike Zafirovski, for accepting a job as Nortel`s CEO. Motorola cited non-complete agreements. Nortel paid $11.5 million to end the matter.
Carey resigned from Motorola in November, and his hiring apparently does not violate the terms of his agreement. In his new job, he will be in charge of a number of departments having to do with Nortel`s corporate operations, including human resources and information services.
