AisleBuyer intros self-checkout app

AisleBuyer has debuted its virtual assistant and mobile self-checkout system, writes Softpedia.

According to the people behind the service, AisleBuyer enables consumers to scan products via the iPhone's camera, and complete their purchases using only handset.

The AisleBuyer application, yet to become available in the Apple App Store, features a self-checkout and receipt system, the makers say.

NCR projects self-serve kiosk growth

Sales of self-serve check-out devices to the retail sector are on the cusp of a period of extended growth with new installations in grocery, big box and other large merchants, says Self Service World.

Meanwhile, consumers in North America will see several thousand more DVD kiosks at local shops by the end of the year. Other positives for the industries were discussed by NCR's leadership during its recent second-quarter conference call with stock analysts.

Several analysts pressed NCR executives on its expansion in the kiosk DVD sector and the firm's relationship with troubled Blockbuster.

DVD rental kiosks expand

Redbox Automated Retail is adding automated, self-service Redbox DVD rental kiosks at CVS/pharmacy locations nationwide, states Orlando Business Journal.

There are more than two dozen CVS pharmacies in the Orlando area. The national rollout, which comes on the heels of a successful pilot program at select CVS/pharmacy locations, will start this quarter with about 700 installations by the end of 2010.

The rollout at thousands of CVS locations should be completed by the end of 2011.
