Airtime mania as Telkom woos customers to pay Dec/Jan bills on time

Johannesburg, 29 Oct 2003

A bumper Christmas awaits Telkom residential customers who pay their telephone accounts on time and in full, with 100 prizes worth R1 000 in credit each up for grabs.

The aim of Telkom`s festive season promotion is to reward consistent payment behaviour to ensure that account payment is at the top of Telkom customers` budget list during the Christmas/New Year period.

Experience has shown that the rate of account payment before due date comes down during this period, affecting customers` credit profiles and even leading to suspension of telephone service.

But Telkom`s customer services managing executive, Motlatsi Nzeku, said this could be avoided.

Nzeku said it was in best interests of both Telkom and customers that accounts were settled on time and in full.

"There is nothing as bad as starting a New Year with unpaid debts. But because we want our customers to stay in touch with their world, we have embarked on a countrywide festive season payment promotion to reward those diligent customers who pay their December/January accounts on time and in full," said Nzeku.

He explained that the 100 lucky residential customers will each win a R1 000 credit on their accounts.

In addition to the credit amount settling the outstanding balance, customers could use the remaining credit on their account to buy telephone equipment or other value-added services at any Telkom outlet.

The promotion has been running for some time now, and the previous years have seen more and more customers settling their December/January bills on time as they realise the convenience of starting a New Year with only school fees and uniform to worry about, having paid up their telephone accounts.

"Our message is that Telkom is a world-class communications company, run on business principles. Payment of your telephone account on the right time at the right place can save you money," Nzeku said.
