Afrihost offers 1 000 Internet users a 'free lunch'

Johannesburg, 02 Nov 2010

Whoever coined the phrase “there is no such thing as a free lunch” clearly never discussed the issue with Afrihost. As part of a special offer to users, the Internet service provider (ISP) has begun giving away free 1GB ADSL accounts.

The company insists that there are no catches, no hidden agendas and no expiration dates on these accounts. The only prerequisite is that there are only 1 000 of these and they are being given away on a first come, first served basis. At the time of writing, 500 accounts had already been given away, on 28 October, with another 500 given away on 29 October.

According to Afrihost, this latest offer is simply a response to the increasing competition to be found in the local ADSL market. Uncapped ADSL prices have dropped below R100 per month and per-GB prices have been slashed by the various ISPs, sometimes to below R10 per GB on promotional offers. The company hopes that its genuinely special offer will once again throw the bandwidth cat among the Internet pigeons.

Insisting that the offer will include one free GB of unshaped, fast ADSL from Afrihost, every month, forever, the company began accepting applications for the special offer from noon today. Afrihost points out that the free accounts will be limited to one per person and will be locked to the Telkom landline number provided during the sign-up phase. “So if you want one, be certain to ensure that the number you have entered is the correct one,” says the ISP.

In addition, Afrihost says its existing Capped ADSL clients will also not lose out, as it has arranged for a free monthly GB to be available for activation in the Client Zone as its way of thanking its loyal clients.

Furthermore, the company suggests that if the 1 000 free offerings are 'sold out' by the time a prospective user gets there, they must simply add their e-mail details into the relevant area on the site. This will ensure that they will be among the first to know the next time an offer of this nature is made.

“It is our vision to make the Internet available to as many South Africans as possible. By launching this no-catch, free monthly ADSL account, we hope to help everyone to move a step closer in that direction,” says Afrihost.
