Acer develops dual screen laptop

An Acer laptop with dual 15-inch screens has been developed, according to Gizmodo.

One 15-inch screen would act as a display and the other 15-inch screen would replace the keyboard and trackpad.

Much is unknown about the Acer dual-screen laptop, but it carries on the same idea of the Microsoft Courier and the Toshiba Libretto W100, which have dual 7-inch screens.

NEC netbook finally unveiled

IT solutions company NEC has been working on a netbook for a while, and says it has finally reared its head, notes Softpedia.

It is called LaVie Light BL550/CS and is based on the new Intel Atom N550 dual-core central processing unit (CPU). The Intel Atom N550 CPU was officially introduced on the market in late August, when it practically became the strongest entry-level chip for the Pine Trail platform.

It is a dual-core unit with a clock frequency of 1.5 GHz, and this implies a significantly better performance compared to most other entry-level mobile PCs.

ATO pens $60m desktop deal

The Australian Taxation Office (ATO) has signed an estimated $60 million contract with Lockheed Martin to provide desktop PC and other end-user computing services, states Computerworld.

Lockheed Martin is a US technology company more known for its strengths in the construction of fighter jets and missiles than in enterprise IT services.

Lockheed was confirmed as preferred tenderer for the deal in late July, beating out names such as CSC, incumbent HP Enterprise Services, Fujitsu and Unisys.
