ACCPAC announces support for Sun's Linux line

Designed to address business needs, expansion capabilities and features in a variety of environments and to significantly reduce TCO

Johannesburg, 10 Feb 2003

ACCPAC Africa has announced that ACCPAC Advantage Series and ACCPAC Pro Series accounting applications have been certified for deployment on Sun Microsystems' Linux-based product line, including the new x86-based entry-level server, the LX50.

"Both ACCPAC Advantage Series and ACCPAC Pro Series are designed to address the accounting needs of the small and mid-size business market and each serve as a foundation for ACCPAC's integrated suite of end-to-end business management applications," says Jeremy Waterman, managing director, ACCPAC Africa.

The Sun LX50 entry-level system is designed for companies searching for a powerful, reliable, easily managed general-purpose server capable of handling a wide range of demanding tasks. It offers a platform that supports up to 6GB of RAM, SCSI hard disk drives, multiple PCI buses, and ships preloaded with Sun Linux 5.0 and Sun ONE applications.

The Sun LX50 server's management features and expandability make it the solution on which to deploy Linux-based applications, such as ACCPAC Advantage Series.

Furthermore, Linux is consistent with Sun's computing vision of employing open standards and non-proprietary interfaces to develop products and services that address business needs in a variety of environments.

Waterman feels that the Sun LX50 server, combined with ACCPAC Advantage Series or ACCPAC Pro Series, can provide small and mid-size businesses with the freedom to deploy in a "non-Microsoft" environment and the potential to significantly reduce their total cost of ownership.

"Whether a customer is looking to deploy Linux as a database server, an application server, or at the desktop level, ACCPAC and Sun deliver complete support for the Linux platform - offering businesses the ability to run Linux and Windows clients in parallel against the same database," he concludes. "This allows a business owner the flexibility and freedom to pick the right operating system for each user."
