3fifteen named a finalist in the 2013 Bookmark Awards

3fifteen has been named a finalist in the Tablet App category of this year's Bookmark Awards. The Bookmark Awards are run on an annual basis to reward excellence in the world of digital. 3fifteen is up against DSTV Online and BNRY & Jupiter Drawing Room Johannesburg in the Tablet App category.

"This is a very exciting development for us," says Tarkan Diraz, head of mobile and digital marketing at 3fifteen. "Our digital marketing competence has traditionally focused more strongly on Web sites and the development of consumer-focused apps, but we are making a shift towards more integrated digital campaigns for our clients. The Dimension Data Pro Am app, which earned us a place in the finals, is already a step in that direction." This is the first time 3fifteen has entered the Bookmark Awards.

The Dimension Data Pro Am app marks the first time a major sporting event in South Africa has had its own dedicated Windows 8 app. 3fifteen developed the app in close collaboration with Dimension Data, Microsoft, Internet Solutions, Scope Technology and Samsung, to give people attending the event access to a live tournament score feed and real-time player tracking, among other things. By using the powerful features and user interface of Windows 8, the application took following a golfing tournament and its players to a new level. "The Windows 8 desktop and Windows Phone 8 mobile and tablet app enabled spectators to track players, keep abreast of scores, watch IP video footage, view player profiles, tee-off times and leaderboards, and interact with live social media feeds - all in real time," says Diraz.

Working with Scope Technologies, the app included geospatial tracking capabilities. "Scope Technologies' GeoPins GPS tracking device was used to track with an accuracy level of up to two metres," he says. This data was hosted entirely on the Microsoft Azure platform, implemented by 3fifteen.

The app was further enhanced by a Facebook page, which hosted information about the players as well as a competition. The objective of the competition was to drive awareness of the sponsors, and with close on 800 entries over the two-week period, was well received. The site dimenstiondataproam.co.za was also redesigned to complement the app design and re-mastered in HTML5.

"This is exactly the type of integrated digital campaigns that the market is looking for," says Diraz. "By combining best-of-breed technology, creative insights, valuable consulting and a multi-platform approach, we are able to take our customers' digital campaigns to a new level, driving returns like never before," he concludes.
