Milani Wolmarans is the Chief Director – Responsible for National Health Insurance (NHI) Information Systems at the National Department of Health, South Africa. Milani has a clinical degree in Occupational Therapy from the University of Stellenbosch and a Post-Graduate Diploma in Health Management from the University of Cape Town (UCT). She is currently enrolled for a master’s degree in Development Policy and Practise at UCT. Ms Wolmarans has an intimate knowledge of the public health system that has been forged over 3 decades of public health management experience. Her key competency lies in the areas of Public Health Planning and Policy Development and is a champion for the use of actionable data that effects change at both the policy and operational levels. This role has proved to be a natural steppingstone toward leading the development of information systems and tools for NHI as her ability to understand the service delivery platform from a clinical and operational perspective has been invaluable. Ms Wolmarans has currently been seconded to support the information system requirements toward suppression of the Covid-19 Pandemic in South Africa in her designated role currently the program manager for the Electronic Vaccination Data Systems (EVDS). She is devoted to the testing and design of the enterprise architecture for the development of an integrated patient information system for South Africa.
