Dr Vuma Magaqa is the Director of Digital Health in the Department of Health in KwaZulu-Natal, a position he has held for 20 years. He is a member of the Ministerial Advisory Committee on Digital Health in South Africa – the committee that developed the National Digital Health Strategy for South Africa (2019-2024).
He won First Prize in the Digital Government category award hosted by the State Information Technology Agency (SITA), and second position for Best Innovation in Citizen-Centred Service Delivery in Africa Public Service Day in Nairobi, Kenya, both awarded in 2019. He obtained a doctorate degree in health information systems using telemedicine from the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN), and a master of philosophy degree in social research methodology from the University of Stellenbosch.
